Foodcycler 3 Step Process

The Town of Wainwright has partnered with Canadian company Food Cycle Science to pilot a waste diversion solution that will help reduce the amount of food waste headed to our local landfill!

This program is available to Town of Wainwright residents ONLY. Residents can choose between:

  • FoodCycler Eco 3 
    • $200.00 CAD plus GST
    • Available in White only
    • Household size: 1-3
  • FoodCycler Eco 5
    • $300.00 CAD plus GST
    • Available in White only
    • Household size: 3+
  • Compare models
  • Demo units are available for viewing at the Town Office, 1018 - 2 Avenue
  • Maximum of 1 unit per household
  • Upon pick-up, payment must be received by Cash, Debit or Credit Card (no cheques). Pick-up date at the end of February (to be announced).

Participants will be required to track how often they run the FoodCycler in a 12-week period using a supplied simple tracking sheet and complete a brief exit survey. At the end of the 12-week period, we hope participants will continue to use the FoodCycler units to divert food waste from the landfill!

Pilot Project Timeline: March - May 2025 (12 weeks)

The Town of Wainwright and our four neighboring municipalities (Villages of Irma, Chauvin and Edgerton and the Municipal District of Wainwright), utilize GFL Environmental Inc. as our contractor for waste and recycling collection. 
  • Garbage is collected via a cart system.
  • Carts will be provided to residential properties. They will be dropped off at your property in the approximate location GFL would like you to present them for garbage pickup.
  • GFL provides the carts as part of their service and there is no extra charge to residents for the carts.
  • Pickup is in the front of your property
  • Garbage pickup days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Residences to the west side of 14th Street (including the west side of 14th Street) are picked up on Tuesdays and residences to the east side of 14th Street (including the east side of 14th Street) are picked up on Wednesdays.
  • Recycling pickup day are Thursdays.
  • Residents are responsible for their assigned carts. If the cart is faulty or in need of repair at no fault of the resident, it will be fixed or replaced by GFL. If the cart is damaged by the resident, it will be the responsibility of the resident to pay for a new cart ($100 plus GST).

In order to ensure that your solid waste is collected, it must be put out by 7:00 am on your regularly scheduled collection day.

Solid waste collection takes place on all statutory holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Landfill Rates

The Wainwright Regional Waste to Energy Authority operates the Landfill.

Recycling

Pickup every Thursday.  

Must have bags out on the front curb by 7:00 am on collection day. 

Blue bag recycling takes place on all statutory holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Grass Clipping Pickup

  • The Public Works Department will pick up grass clippings and garden wastes on your regularly scheduled garbage day from mid-May to the end of July. In August and September pick-up is every two weeks.

Spring and Fall Clean-up

  • Free pick-up of yard wastes, tree limbs, clean wood, small pieces of concrete, sod, tires, and metals.
  • No refrigerators, deep freezers, air conditioners, microwaves, washers, dryers, dishwashers, stoves, hot water tanks, mattresses & box springs, carpets, paint cans, wet cell batteries, construction material, furniture, automotive parts and televisions.

Refundable beverage containers and bottles

In the province of Alberta deposits are charged when ready to drink beverages are purchased. They are returned in full when you bring back the empty container for recycling to a bottle depot. Items accepted include: plastic bottles, plastic jugs and cups, aluminum cans, polycoat containers, bag-in-a-box and pouches, glass bottles and other metal beverage cans.
