Rural Registered Nursing Degree Program
Alberta Health Services in collaboration with the University of Calgary is providing the opportunity to get a four-year undergraduate registered nursing degree in Wainwright!
- Pilot program launched in September 2021
- Open to Alberta residents that live within a 120km radius of the Town of Wainwright
- Program delivered online and in-person in the Wainwright area
- 4 year program, September admission only

Health Care Aide Program
The Health Care Aide program will be offered by Lakeland College in Wainwright starting September 2022! Please see the poster.
Students can apply for a $9000 tuition bursary, paid out in two installments; $3000 after completion of courses 1-5 and $6000 paid after all courses have been completed and successful completion of the provincial exam. To be eligible students must sign a return of service agreement agreeing to work 2,000 hours, within two years of commencing employment with a continuing care operator (CC). CC operators include Wainwright Long Term Care and Points West Living. Lakeland College Health Care Aide students are eligible for this bursary. Applications open on July 1, 2022. The program will run from September 6, 2022 to April 23, 2023 with theory completed online and labs completed over 10 weekends. The exact weekend dates are still to be determined.
320 hours of practicum are also required and will be scheduled as follows:
- December 5 – 16, 2022 (full-time, 80 hours)
- March 13 – April 21, 2023 (full-time, 240 hours)
