Connect or Disconnect a Service
The Town of Wainwright requires 48 hours notification in order to connect or terminate utility services.
New Service Line
To request a new service line to be installed or relocated, complete and submit the Utility Service Installation Application Form. Procedures and costs are on the reverse side of the application form.
Utilities connected in the name of the Property Owner do not require a deposit unless the account becomes delinquent.
All rental properties will stay in the property owners name, effective May 1, 2016, going forward.
The Town of Wainwright offers a utility budget payment plan. The budget payment plan is a means of spreading utility charges over a twelve-month period. Your estimated annual utility charges are divided into twelve equal payments with settlement of the account occurring on April 30th annually. The current rate for the cost of wastewater service for residential premises connected to the Town sewage system and which contains not more than two dwelling units shall be a fixed monthly charge of $20.00.
Where there are more than two dwelling units in residential premises or for other properties served by a single water meter, the customer shall pay a rate of:
|$1.03/cubic meter of wastewater|
|*calculated in the manner herein set forth with a minimum of $20.00 per month|
For the purpose of calculating the sewage charge payable by a customer, the volume of wastewater contributed by a customer to the sewage works shall be deemed to be equal to 90% of the water delivered to the customer’s premises.
Natural Gas Rates
The Town of Wainwright’s gas distribution lines are owned and maintained by the Town. All profits stay within our community. The Town of Wainwright purchases natural gas from Gas Alberta.
Effective January 1, 2020 the Federal Government has implemented a Carbon Levy on Natural Gas.

The Town of Wainwright works hard to ensure the accuracy of the information provided on your utility bill, please help us by carefully reviewing your bill. Check to ensure that your customer information is correct including your name and service address.
If you find an error on your bill:

to report any inaccuracies on your bill.
If your bill seems too high or low:
If your water usage (consumption) seems too high or too low:
- Check to ensure that the meter reading located on the meter inside your house matches the reading on your bill. Report any differences to the Utility Billing Department.
- Watch for leaky faucets and running toilets. Faulty plumbing can adversely effect your water consumption.

Paying Your Bill
Choose the payment option that is right for you:
- Pay online or by phone through your bank.
- Pay in person at most banks and financial institutions.
- Sign-up for The Town of Wainwright’s pre-authorized withdrawal program. Tax Auto Pay Form and Utility Auto Pay Form.
- Pay by Mail: Make your cheque payable to the Town of Wainwright and mail to: 1018 – 2 Avenue, Wainwright, AB T9W 1R1
- Pay at the Town Office between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (interac is available).
- Make your payment after hours through the mail drop-off box at the Town Office
Please allow sufficient time for payment to reach our office by the “Due Date”. Payment will be applied to your account on the date of receipt at our office.
